Oh My Blog is a monthly interview series, where fellow bloggers come together to answer a series of questions on a specific theme. This is a chance to get acquainted with a whole range of bloggers, some of whom you may not have heard of before, and learn a little more about them!
This month, the theme is Mums (because it’s Mother’s Day soon!) and we’re hosting Laura from Oh So Mummy
Introduce us to your mum. What’s her name? What does she do? Reveal her age if you dare!
Oh my dear mum, so much love for her. Her name is Angela, better known as Angie. She’s at the prime age of 50, doesn’t look it at all though – hopefully I have that special gene! She works hard as a carer for the elderly, I’ve never met anyone as devoted to their job as she is.
What’s the one thing your mum always used to say to you?
“I don’t mind what you’re doing, just let me know so you’re safe”. My mum trusted me, I would always try be honest with her as I knew she worried. One night, me and friends stayed out in a tent and I told her I was at a friends. 5am in the morning I had to call her to check I can come home because it was freezing cold. After that I decided she was right, I had to tell her what i was doing rather than lying.
Someone’s playing your mum in a film. Who is it and why?
I asked my mum this question as I really had no clue, I’m rubbish with films and actors. She thinks it would be Demi Moore, maybe because she’s a family orientated person and she always speaks nicely. Or maybe it’s the fact she was once married to Bruce Willis and I know my mum would love a bit of him ha ha!
She’s won the lottery. What’s the first thing your mum buys for herself?
Champagne, she’s loves a good drink my mum, Not in an alky sort of way, she just enjoys it haha
What embarrassing story about you does she always tell when you meet new people?
It’s not super embarrassing but it is a little. When I was 11 I held a world record for the most socks worn on one foot, random right? So, whenever she tells people I always get that look, Why would you want to put 50 socks on one foot you crazy girl?
What are your plans for Mother’s Day this year?
We don’t have any set in stone just yet. She did mention a spa she would like to visit, maybe we could both go there and have some quality mother and daughter time 🙂
What’s her favourite TV show at the moment?
She’s a soap junkie, she loves all of them. I’m sure her ultimate favourite is home & away.
What’s the biggest or most important thing that your mum inspired you to do?
Become the mum I am today. She has always been an incredible mum. When she was a single parent living off next to nothing she still always made sure me and my brother had nice things. Having a baby at 16 was hard, she showed me all I needed to know
Your round at the bar! What’s your mum drinking?
Jägermeister, I couldn’t believe it when she told me she went out and was drinking these! No offence to the older ones but, I thought they were for the younger ones to be honest haha! – I can only just drink one myself, yet my own mother can down god knows how many in the space of an hour!
What’s the biggest difference between you and your mum?
Not a lot, we are very, very, similar. My dad often says, “It’s just like speaking to your mum having a conversation with you”
Most important question of the lot. What is your mum’s stance on 50 Shades of Grey? Does she love it? Hate it? Not even know what it is?
Hmm, she doesn’t love it but she doesn’t hate it either. She read the books though!
What’s your favourite memory of your mum?
When we were on holiday in Spain. We had a bucket filled with sangria and had huge straws to drink from. It’s my favourite memory because she was so happy and having a laugh with us.
What do you think your mum was like as a kid?
She was a bit of a tomboy, she has 2 brothers so she was always with them until she was older and had her own friends.
Cast your mind back a bit; what was the thing you did as a child or teenager that made your mum the angriest she has ever been with you?
Hmm, I was a little cow when I was younger, I always had a bad attitude and she hated it. I probably made her angry every day. My memory is crap after having babies so I can’t actually remember but, I can take this question and use it to make an open apology to my mum. SORRY I WAS A BITCH MUM, LOVE YOU!
Finally, what’s the BEST piece of advice your mum ever gave to you?
She has given me the best advice during my lifetime, the best being simply ‘go for it’. I always have big ideas, some shit but some that could actually work. If I pitch my plan to her she is always so supportive and pushes me to go ahead with it. She never doubts me, I appreciate that so much. If it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t have done half the stuff I’ve done today.
